The foot pedal on the Terrova is terrible at best. You can cruise the banks with the remote but it gets frustrating. I don’t cast the banks very much, but when I do I wish that I had a cable steer motor on the boat instead of my Terrova. I love the Terrova for my trolling style of crappie fishing, but if I bass fished like I used to more often I would definitely put the money down on an Ultrex because it has the best of both worlds.

Don't mean to steal your thread , but I have a question for some of these older guys,,,,
My stepdad used to have an older model minnkota I believe and it used to keep a distance off shoreline with laser pointing I believe and all you did was set speed and fish along banks,,anyone remember what this trolling motor was called? It was great for bass fishing because once you were hooked up or found that speciL hole,, you just punched stop and you stayed put,,mThat was twenty years or so ago,,,,

That sounds like a Co-Pilot as far as staying off a shore but it was done by compass heading. The stopping and staying sounds like an anchor. Up until the latest generation trolling motors, staying was relative.

The old Pinpoint had 5 transducers in the head. It could track a creek channel......stay x number of feet off the bank.......follow a track in a given depth of water. When it worked it was great......which wasn’t often. The last time I sent it in under warranty they called and told me they would fix it and send it back to me but if it failed again there would be no more warranty....or they would give me my money back. I took the money.

    Regards

Fished Douglas, TN, yesterday and wind was really blowing. I have Ultrex. Wind was between 11-15 mph and constant.

found some fish and hit spot lock Sitting in wide open area and stayed locked on for hrs at a time.

The fish were white bass and the bite was furious. Without spot lock I would have loads of trouble. Never get my remote out. I love spot lock and Minn Kota is reliable.

very happy so far with my Xi5, going on 2 yrs with it and no problems.. anchor mode works great keeps me right on where I want to fish even with a very stiff breeze..its mounted on my 18 ft pontoon now and works just as well as it did on my 14 ft boat so zero complaints.

Thanks again guys. I'm somewhat surprised about the number of positive comments about spot lock. I have read a lot of bad reviews. They must have made some good improvements. Also I have noticed the motor guides arent mentioned as much. Wonder why?

Rough, I have had the Ultrex since they first came out.
    Would highly recommend the Ultrex!
This Ultrex spot lock, is what they promised 10 years ago in the terrova.
The old terrova at best kept you in a 20 foot circle. Was supposed to be 5 foot.
Spot lock works perfect in the new generation.
