Default Need help/ideas mounting a depth finder on a tiller motor jon boat.

I have a 17ft jon with a 40hp tiller motor. I am putting a side view on it. I will prob fish out of rear the most and think mounting it back there will be best. I am wondering if there are mounts I might can connect to the side of the boat. If possible I would like to be able to take it off, due to maybe duck hunting. Thanks in advance for any ideas offered. tnduxcaller

On my tiller boat I had my unit mounted on bench to the left of me where it was easy to see. Most units are removable unless your talking about removing the transducer. Which I wouldn't worry about removing, just loosen a bit and swing transducer up real high, should clear any mud, stumps etc.

Will do most anything you need. Both the screen and the transducer.

Look at Deep V boats. A lot of those guys fish out of the back and have their electronics mounted in the rear. Lot of new Deep V boats have a factory built box or enclosure the electronics are mounted in.

What would be diffrent? He is going to have to get a mount and mount it somewhere in the back and maybe build something to mount it on. The rear of a Deep V and the back of a jon are no diffrent. Im just saying there are a lot of electronics mounted in the rear of a Deep V and if he looks at them he may get some ideas.

Thanks for your ideas. I may try to put something together like the trolling motor mount type idea. My boat ain't the best but I want my depth finder to be good. Thanks for your help!!

Hello barrelslime : Iv'e owned 5 deep v boats and a couple of jon boats. The difference is my deep v boats all had a 6" to 10" gunwale which made mounting electronics simple and easy. No making brackets I just used what came with the electronics .For the jon boats I had to make the brackets so I could put the electronics where I wanted them to be at . Rather than just mounting them the easiest way I could. The jon boats didn't have gunwales. I had a jon boat and a deep v at the same time and would switch the depth finder from boat to boat and wanted to have the depth finder in the same position or as close as I could get. I loved the jon boat for the river but used the deep v on lakes. Good Luck. O - R
