That's what I do, set them up after I launch. Not only are they in the way to get in at the bow, I don't want my base screws to loosen from them shaking while in tow.

I would think it was that way so that 2 of ya could say what pole. Kinda like #ing them. My guess.

Correct. the colored tape is just a visual reference when communicating back to front ( I fish with a brother in law that prefers up front when we go, yet lacks being on point 5 outta 10 times when the poles are bouncing from bites ) Doh!

They also equate to wraps on my poles which helps me load my poles in the order I put them on, and take them off the boat. (No rod transport rack yet. Usually no problems lining them up in a organized manor to one side of my boat decking........at least poles thru 14 feet, up to 16 poles can be loaded)

And thank you for the kind words on my Ride............. she's over 11 years old and still on point, as well as the "Best" kind of boat.............. one that is PAID IN FULL

"do you think i can long line from the front with 2 rods on each side?"
Absolutely! just offset the pole lengths................ example ...10 foot poles in front of 7-8 foot poles? as long as there is a reasonable distance between your lines...a foot or two?.....your good to go!

The best part about long lining from the side.................you never leave your seat.

Got a question on your rod holder bracket, what are the different color tapes for?

He addressed that a couple of replies ago. Basically it's for identification of which rod has a bite, when the other person isn't paying close attention. So he can say ... blue pole or yellow pole ... and the person sitting behind those poles can quickly see which pole he needs to grab & set the hook.
