Can't help about your scanning, but if you remove one of the P's you'll be good to go on your spelling!
Lately I have been scanning for fish with my new Garmin 93sv. I keep finding what I think are schools of crappie but I end up catching stripers, I about broke a nice trolling rod yesterday on a big one. How do you guys tell the difference, or can you?

If you are running Side Scan, look at the bottom shadows. The fish will show up as a white dot or line but the shadows under the fish will give away the SIZE of the fish. IMO, after that, it's pretty much an educated guess as to species. I have a lot of clients ask what is that particular fish species on my Helix 12 Mega and honestly, I have no idea other than an educated guess.

stripes tend to be less concentrated and typically send bark larger marks . and most of the time they are not on heavy cover
I am with the educated guess crowd though

I get excited when I’m longlining or pulling cranks and see a “Christmas tree” shaped school of fish on my electronics. In my experience that’s feeding crappie and I will put a waypoint on the Helix and circle back so I can go thru that school from several different directions.
