    Default any good crappie faqs

tried looking around and couldnt seem to find one crappie fishing can be very very very frustrating it always ahs forme tbh iv only been lucky like 3 times out of maybe 20 trips trying to specifically fish for them from the bank. i only bank fish and usually use minnows or a swim bait

i figure i could greatly increase my chances by learning more about these fish since i see so many people here show off there many stringers full and i happen to live in the best state in usa for crappie. i was told the best time to bank fish is in march/april when they come into shallower waters. so looks like im gonna have to wait till then to go again.

also what do you think would be the best aftifical bait to use as well as minnows from the bank? if you could use just 1 type of artificial bait from the bank what would you get?

    I start with this.

    Crappies By Degrees

And adjust depending on baitfish being present

Bank fishing can be tough, for real .... but:

Early AM and late PM can be a good time for them to be closer to the bank. Shady banks during warm weather - sunny banks during cooler weather.

Other than minnows ... a jig or Road Runner would be my choice for casting from the bank. A deep bank with a deadfall tree or brushpile close enough to reach with a cast would be my first priority choice. Second choice would be a stand of trees within casting distance.

Gaining casting distance can be done with : longer rod, lighter line test, larger spool reel, weighted float, added weight on line above the bait ... or some or all of these things combined. A weedless jighead would also help keep from getting snagged in the wood cover.

Thinking about extra casting distance from the bank. I wonder how a bobber that you adjust the weight by filling with water would work.

They'd work just like a lead weighted float, only more expensive. Access Denied (and you might have to paint the top half in order to see it at any appreciable distance )

(click on "Access Denied" link, it'll take you to the correct website page)

Would never limit myself to just one type of plastic, and for that matter size wise either. You can also add a minnow to them, if need be. Our waters are generally stained. So some of the colors used would be pink, white, chartruse in yellow or green, and mixes of colors.

no sadly i wish. im in meridian ms right by okatibbee resivour not many other good fishing places sadly or rivers creeks t fish. so okatibbee is basically the only decent place so i either try n hit the spillway or go to the boat launch by the waterpark. iv never had any luck crappie fishing spillway though maybe due to my technique or bait

reason i asked about what bait would be best is i dont wana go out and spend a lot of money on baits. im gonna be moving in april and id like to have 1 or 2 good fishing trips before i move to ny and cant fish no more. so was curious on what type of jig lure and 2 best colors u think would b good for dark or clearer waters

Don't think that just because you're moving to NY that you will not be able to fish.......unless you are moving to Sing Sing!!!

1 1/2" white with silver tube with a 1/32-1/16 oz. lead head jig. Casting or under a float. Second choice would be a chartreuse or white twister tail grub with same jig head. I have caught more crappies with this setup than any other while shore fishing. Good luck!
