My concerns aren't about tangling in TM, but spooking fish.
So,16's out front will outfish 14's or 12's out front? Significantly?

As i posted earlier, the further out away from the boat we got the jigs, the better we did.

One have to swim to other side of lake to take the fish off

These are inexpensive carbon rods, extremely light weight, and rated for "carp" fishing and are plenty strong enough for crappie.

Here is an eBay link to the ones we are using at present. You have to be careful as some of these style rods (not the ones in the link) are as flexible as wet noodles and need to be avoided. We wrap guides on the rods and use Shakespeare (me) and Okuma (Don) line counter reels.

Can you lift a 1 1/2 lb or larger fish into the boat with one of those rods? I may have to try a couple of them, even if it's just so I can have a 20 foot fishing pole. LOL

No, you can't. And I wouldn't do it even if the rod could. Hoisting 2 pound paper mouths through the air is a good way to lose fish IMHO.

There's no problem holding them at the surface for netting.
