Default Record breaking Largest fish caught

Lets say you or I caught the largest fish on record of the state, but It was caught from a private lake, that John Q Public does not have acess too.Am I still allowed to claim that state record or should that fish only be counted if it came out of a public lake where every one is on the same playing field....what do you think...

Based on the great catch by Jam Ferguson in TN, it counts!

Don't much matter what "I" think ... check out the state record fish listings for any state & you'll find many of them came from a "private pond". So, if the state doesn't discriminate nor does the IGFA or other record fish organizations, then so be it (as long as it was caught by traditional fishing methods & equipment, according to the rules of those organizations).

here in Texas we have public water body records and private water body records on the books .
I would just check with the local game dept if I was so inclined to record the event .
I only hold one public water body record myself and did it only to promote my buds baits as I told him I would .
and I have managed to ketch a bunch of records on different species of fish and just ate them or put them back in the past .
but then again most folks that run across me don't even know my real name either ….

The record is for size of fish, no matter where it was caught. There are very few totally "private" places to catch a fish. Heck in Louisiana they put private signs up on tidal affected canals and bayous all over the state. They may have been considered public for years.

Raising crappie, I would think would be a nightmare trying to get one over 5 lbs . I really don't care but like farm raised deer it should be acknowledged that it was not free range .
