You know I’ve eaten drum...buffalo many times as a youngster. I thought it was very good. As to the Japanese not eating largemouth.....they do not care for it though their lakes are full of them and smallmouth. If you want an interesting read check out how bluegill got into Japanese waters......conservatively estimated to be over 50 million...I remember reading that number somewhere......in their lakes that they don’t eat and don’t want. The bass.....bluegill are invasive fish to them. Those 50 million bluegill started out as very few fish given to the Emperor as a gift by Chicago’s mayor Richard Daley back in 1960.....some report the number as only 16 fish. But whatever the number that was gifted has turned into 10’s of million and they don’t eat them....and from what I can gather do not like to fish for bluegill either.....but they sure target the bass.

Largemouth bass are considered (by the govt.) an invasive nuisance in Japan, which has spent millions trying to eradicate them.

Funny thing is, they were imported to Japan in 1925. 90 of them were taken there by a Japanese businessman from California. "Bass fishing, as we know it, only got recognition in Japan around 30yrs ago when Gary Yamamoto went there on a business trip.

I have read and reread his story many times. As I’m sure you know he took the bull by the horns to save his lure business as he could not absorb the loss of the return of his lures. So he goes there and travels the country fishing and was the first one to take a bass boat there. When you look at where bass fishing was in Japan in early 80’s....nowhere.....and where it is now is amazing....and many talk about how the Japanese have turned finesse fishing into an art but many don’t realize it was an American who showed them how......just an amazing story.
