Longlining Speed, Line and Jig Weight?

What speed do you typically start? Also, what pound test line and jig weights do you use for longlining?

I like to stay around .8 mph, with a 1/32 and a 1/ 16 with 6 lb. line. This will run me around 10' to 12'.

For me it depends on water depth, and water temperature. Nonetheless, I use 8lb hi-vis line from Gamma and two 24th oz jig heads tied with loop knots 24” apart on a couple rods and on a couple more rods I use two 32nd oz jigs tide 24” apart.
i vary my speed to control depth till I find the speed and depth the fish are holding. Normally .3 to 1.5 mpg jigs are different length back out of the boat, 30 to 100 feet out. All depends on what the crappie want and the weather conditions

I run between .7-1.1mph 6 poles. 10ft, 8ft, 6ft. 1/8 oz on the 6ft, 1/16 on the 8ft, and 1/32 on the 10ft rods. Vicious 8pound hi vis on all rods

I run my rod set-up according to my number of fishermen onboard. My typical client set-up is 2-3 rods apiece. I use spinning reels with 6 pound Viscious high vis line. I normally run 14-12-10-8-6 light action slow tip Southern Crappie Rods. I run a lot of roadrunner type heads in combo with Pico Bunny Tail jighead in 1/6 and1/8 oz. I like large sickle hooks on my jigs. I use curlytails and minnow type bodies. I’ll always use a scent attractor like Slab Sauce or Crappie Nibbles. My target speed is 0.7-1.0 until water temps get to high 50s then I switch over to crankbaits.

I like what they all said. Average speed .8, double 1/16oz jigs and I add a 1/16th #5 split shot weight to go down, if deep. I average between 40 and 60' of line out, back of boat. Every #5 shot will add about 3-4 feet of depth.

I run the exact same set up as I do cranking, 18, 14, 10 and 6s on each side. Hi Vis line, 6lb test. On the 18s I run a pair of 1/16s, on the 16s I run an 1/8 and a 1/16, on the 10s I run a pair of 1/8s and on the 6s I run an 1/8 and 1/4. Run this in 10 foot of water and deeper with the jigs attached with loop knots about 6 foot apart. Speed is more of a key for me, line out makes a difference too, but speed seems to be the key. .8 up to 1.5 is good and have caught some studs on the outside poles making a hard turn at over 2 mph, know them outside jigs were moving.
Turning is more of a chalenge than it is cranking and I have come to the conclusion that making a quick turn is easier with the poles rolled up, easier than untangling a mess that lighter jigs cause with the drift when you turn.
I am far from an expert but so far I am catching fish. Mr. Dux, like the idea of the scent and will start using it more.

I always start at .9 mph, 4 lb line, and double 1/32 curly tail jigs. Then adjust from there if needed based on where the fish are biting in the water column and how aggressive the bite is.

Let me add something here that very few think about until it’s too late:

When pulling jigs or cranks put you outboard in gear so the prop won’t turn. It doesn’t take much speed to start the prop rotating. One wrong turn or crosswind and you can have several lines wrapped up in the prop. While aggravating, line around a prop shaft can set off a chain of events that an destroy an outboard.
