    Default Double Rig Question

When you guys fish jigs do you only have 1 per line or two? I’ve tried putting tubes on a double minnow rig but not pleased with it. Should I tie a double minnow rig but put jigs on it instead of hooks or is it too much weight? Anyone have pics of their double jig setup?

I Push jigs with only one jig behind the weight .... but, I did fish with another member that Pushes jigs 90% of the time, and that time we started out with double rigs. Basically it was simply a loop knot made into the main line with a jig on it, then the weight, then a leader with the second jig on the end. He stated that "sometimes, but not all that often" he'd catch doubles. It also presented a problem when the two jig rig met up with a heretofore unknown brush pile or stump. Basically knocking that one rod out of commission until a new rigging could be applied. So, during the days fishing, we mostly ended up Pushing one jig following the weight. And between the two of us, boated around 120 "keepers" and almost as many throwbacks ... of which I kept around 20 of the 10.5" or larger fish.

We were using 1oz weights, running at 1mph, and the plastics were "boot tail" bodies known as Slabanator Booty Shakers. And if I remember correctly, the only reason we changed out any of the bodies was to change the colors we were offering.

I have tried the double minnow setup as well, but I normally tie two jigs using a loop knot about 6-8 inches apart. I tie the heavier of the two jigs on the bottom. (I have a few videos on this setup and how I tie it) Normally I use a 1/32nd jig and a 1/16th. Personally I don't think it adds too much weight to the rod, I still can feel bites.

This is how I tie mine. Use the snaps on tag end so you can change from jigs to straight hooks or jig head color plus you have to tie up a lot less of them verses tying hooks or jigs straight to line. I used heavy line just for picture purposes. Mine are usually tied with 12 lb fluorocarbon.

I like using the small tubes with minnows, but usually just one.
I might also use a jig below it but not often.
I use the #6 hook as a needle to pull the line thru the tube.
Then I put a #5 plastic bead on the line and push that up inside the tube, then tie on the hook with a clinch knot.
The bead keeps the hook in the tube, then I add a split shot above the tube, or if trolling, whatever setup im using as for that. I like pre making rigs like that on 12" lengths of 4# fluro line with a very small swivel on the other end and as a rule connect to the main line with a little quick hook connection or a small snap.

Thanks guys. I'd prefer minnows but when it's 40 or below i'd rather not stick my hands in a minnow bucket all day. I just didn't know if having a setup like what Cray posted would be too heavy or not. Cray- I like the snap idea, will have to switch to this.

While I often use a double rig,I notice that the vast majority of hook ups happen on the bottom lure/bait.I do believe the double rig serves as a better attractant than a single set up,but that’s just speaking the obvious Imho.I have never used the double for pushing, mostly I fish it drop shot style or under a bobber, the results could be vastly different for those that push.

That bead inside a tube is a cool idea, have never thought about that. That’s one of the great things abou this site. Learn something new everyday. Crappie fishermen are the most innovative fishermen out there..

I use doubles all the time when the bite is good...but I only use swimbaits anyway.
I attach a hyper swivel to the bottom and another 18 inches up....then have a blast!
