    Default Landing net

I need a new landing net with a long handle for my boat.

It needs to have a long handle, but not a huge net like some I see.

    What do you like?

    Thanks

Take a look at this net. It can be as short as less than 2 feet or as long as 10 feet. Another crappie.com member in Texas just got one. It weighs one pound and 3 ounces. A quality net.

I just redid mine yesterday only because I came upon some extra parts I wanted to put to use. Started with the $8 net from Wally with the green mesh. Go to Lowe’s and pick up a 1” OAK dowel. Has to be oak for weight. Now pull the plug from the end of the net handle. Cut a 2” long shoulder on the oak to allow it to go into the net handle TIGHT. Predrill and put a small aluminum screw in it and you’re done. Put it in the floor of the boat with the oak section froward and the wind doesn’t get hold of it and carry it out of the boat. I made one with a broomstick once, lasted three trips and blew out, too light. Been using mine for about 9 years. I have put a couple of replacement mesh sections on it over those years but it is still the same frame. Sand and paint the oak with clear and it will last a very long time.

If you use a broom handle it will be lighter than the oak. Be sure and secure it in the boat when moving. I wouldn’t want to be hit by no flying net. The oak stays in the floor of my boat and has never gone airborne.

If my Lowe's has the oak dowel I will get one. I thought they only had pine or softwood.

Yikes! Long handle nets sure are expensive. I think the dowel is a good deal myself. I used a piece of sch. 40 PVC pipe and a cheap Wally World net myself.
Be safe and good luck fishing
