IL is a big state; some areas may be iced up this weekend, while other may be open. In either case, the majority of northern crappie are going to probably be located deep - in water between 15' - 30' - setting up in their winter holding patterns.
Vertical jigging and/or drifting (if you have a boat) will probably net you the biggest return. Keep an eye on your electronics and do a lot of scouting about before setting up any presentation. Once you have them located, it should not be difficult to catch crappie, yellow perch and bluegill. Good Luck!
