I enjoyed the read immensely! Looks like a fun weekend!
I bought the new UL rod for two reasons, and this weekend was Reason #1. A trip to Lynchburg VA for grand baby #2 birthday and the two piece rod can make the trip safely in the rod tube in the wife’s SUV.
The leaves falling and the wind blowing in from the North made for a cold morning but I left a nice warm bed to harass the local inhabitants of the small lake behind my daughters house.
I did not slip the boat in due to the wind so I went to the deepest part of the lake where the overflow drain is and started pitching a jig Ketchn style. A 1/32 ounce jig with a Trout Magnet fooled a bunch of Fall finned fishes for sure. The dead pads and grass extended out a good 10 ft from the shore and the fish were stacked up just beyond that line.
First up, the Crappie were grabbing the Trout Magnet almost as it hit the water. I think this little body of water was turning over as the water was very coffee colored, not clear as usual. The wind probably cause it to look stained also. Anyway, I spooled the Plueger Limited Edition President up with 3lb Nanofil and boy did that make a difference in bite detection. A quick thump and the fight was on from all sizes of Specks.
16 were sore lipped pretty quick, and returned to complain to their buddies. As the sun made its way up I moved into the shady areas and found a few gills.
They enjoyed the offerings as well, preferable worked a little slower along the grass edges.
A couple stunted bass fell prey to the imitation bait and put up a great fight on the UL. A bonus using the braid, it comes through the grass easily and I had no break offs or lost fish due to the thick bank vegetation. After about an hour of pure Fall bank fishing fun, my bait was badly bruised and missing a tail. The Slabsauce was thick from the cold weather but stuck nicely to the jig.
I called it a morning and enjoyed a long but fun day with the grandkids and about 10 of their friends. By the end of the day, Pepaw was pooped!

Was looking for that rod online, only available on eBay?thanks
Good job Stan and a real good trip. Messing with the little one was worth the trip and the fish just a bonus. I use 2lb nano myself with a 4lb leader for abrasion and just love the cast. Enjoy the new toy, it sure looks nice.

Looks like a lot of fun was had by all. I have a buddy that lives up that way and he is always wanting me to fish a lake maybe by the name of lake swisher? Nice looking fishing rod also!

I emailed Plat.co in Japan (not sure how to link) and they got the rod for me. Recommended by Alphahawk, it is the perfect rod for this little lake. The fish are hungry most time of the year and are pressured by neighborhood bank fishermen throwing big lures on heavy lines. The UL factor of small lines and baits presented subtly and slowly early and late of the evenings are the way to go on these lakes. The rod is perfect to throw the micro plastics.

I do not think this little lake has a name, there are four of them in the neighborhood they live in. Two of them look shallow but this one and the one about two blocks up are deeper and have structure. I feel as if the fish are stunted and need to be removed. I have read on this site that Crappie need to be thinned out of small waters as they are very prolific breeders.
