I'd check around construction sites and take any scrap 2x4's i could find...Just rip 'em lengthways in half and drive 'em.
Anyone know where I can get my hands on some stakes to make some beds. I am in the tipton county area.

tomatoe stakes work good
FISH-ON!!!!!
...that would cost a small fortune if you had to buy em'.
Find a local sawmill and ask for the "slabs". These are the 1 to 1 1/2 inch thick pieces that are cut from all 4 sides of a log before they are sawed into logs.
most sawmills will give you all you want...a few bags of fillets sure wouldn't hurt either!
I have a few stakebeds that I cut from cypress slabs nearly 10 years ago! They still are solid and produce nice slabs every year!
I don't know how long pine would last and you would have pine sap to deal with too. I believe that I would stay away from that.
Cypress, oak, or cedar should be fine.
NIMROD has just secured us access to a cedar mill's slabs. We will be posting pics of our stakebeds as we get them built and put out.
CATCH A BIG-UN
You can get them from most saw mills. I pay $10 for a bundle. One bundle is all that you can get on a full size truck. The ones we use are 1/2 to 3/4 thick, 4 to 5 in. wide and 4 to 6 ft tall.
Government does not solve problems; it subsidizes them.

How do you put these stakes in deep water. I need something to put 4 foot stakes in 12 foot water.
cut your own cane. works pretty good. somebody sells a deep water driver. there's a picture of one on crappie unlimited's website. you might contact someone from that org. and find out where they got it, or just build your own.Originally Posted by Jeremy0407
I nail 7 stakes on a 2x4 . I make up 6 or 7 rows of these, then I stand them up one at a time and nail them together across each end and in the middle with 2x4's. I then have a stake bed that is about 8x8 I put this on the front of my 20 ft. work boat that has rollers on the front . I put 4 heavy concrete blocks on the back and 3 on the front. They have to be older blocks with lots of mortar still on them or the bed will not sink. 2 people can then shove it of and mark it by line ups or GPS. I live in Atwood, TN . You are close enough to drive over and let me show you some first hand. You can get my phone number from my website at www.wooleyboogerjigs.com. Wooley booger man.
