Just some food for thought it's hard to grow crappie big in smaller lakes. I know because I fish a lot of small lakes most are full of drinks. Fish records are for the fish not the fisherman. Anyone can get lucky and catch one big fish and that's the case with most records. Infact a lot of records are broken by mistake. The state record striped bass in Alabama was caught by a guy that was catfishing. The red eye bass was caught by a friend of mine when he was fishing for striped bass. I'm proud for the guy and I have no problem with it.

My bad ....I lost my mind for a minute in defense of his accomplishment...
But it was the only one on the stringer .....and it is still a bulldozer
It reminds a lot of the white crappie I managed 5 years ago or so years ago in a farm pond
And all the jealous ugly things that were implied and said because I chose to let her go .
Was she a new world record white ....I don’t think so ,but sometimes I wonder if she topped 5
I know the replica I chose to represent her is a 4 lb 4 oz . Fish and the one witness to my capture of that fish ...my wife ...
Will tell you flat out the released fish was a lot larger .
Just saying ...be kind be happy and stay focused
It ain’t about who ketches bigger or more
And when it is .....you are lost
    Kaboom

I think the picture of him beside a public road, that you're referring to, is this one :

But that's taken when he was having the TWRA verify the weight & species for the records.[/QUOTE]

Ain't no thang, bruh ... I was just "setting the record straight". (lightheartedly, of course)

And while this fish is a Tenn state record (& probable World Record) .... it ain't his first big fish. A few years ago he caught a 4lb 4oz Crappie that was almost a state record back then.

    (copied from a news article)

"Jam isn’t new to catching giants. In fact, he caught a potential state record black crappie a few years ago with the fish weighing in at a little over 4 lbs 4 oz. Unfortunately for Jam, this fish ended up on the dinner plate instead of in the record books."
