    Default Lowrance Hook 7 question

I do not know much about graphs/electronics and this might sound like a dumb question, but does this unit have GPS or like internal maps of lakes? I had a humminbird 998 that showed me a map of my local lake with where channel markers were so I could find my way in the fog and stay in the channel. Does the Lowrance Hook 7 have this feature?

Hook 7 units have GPS .... but base maps (no contours), unless you put a map card in it. Hook-7 | Fishfinder & Chartplotter | Lowrance | Lowrance USA

Thanks crappypappy. I do not know enough about how to read them to really need contours. I just need to find my way in the fog

Base maps are simply blue patches, more or less where the water is supposed to be .... I'm not so sure I'd be depending on a base map in the fog.
But, if you are going to use the unit in foggy conditions ... check the manual to learn how to turn on the "track" feature. It will leave a line on the base map of where you've been, so if you don't erase it and use the same launch ramp that was used before (when there was no fog), then you can simply follow along that track to get to/from the ramp in the fog. That is, of course, if you can see the screen well enough from where you're sitting in the boat.
Personally I don't even recommend doing that, and I don't do that. If it's that foggy, I stay around the ramp until it lifts enough that I can see where I'm going & any other boat in the area.

Yes I used the track feature on my 998 too. The 998 mainly showed the body of water and just basic details but it did show where the channel markers were and it was accurate. The channel I fish is very narrow and it came in handy. I was just wondering if the Hook 7 had that feature. Looks like I might need to add another graph.

Or get a map system for the Hook 7

I've got a Hook 7 & map card, but I haven't been Crappie fishing since June & just got the map card in July ... so I haven't seen what all the map card will be showing, other than the screenshots the seller posted ... like this one :

And I still don't know if/how much the contours will fill in when I zoom down on the map. But, it does show the river channel, so I guess if push came to shove I "could" use it to navigate back to the launch ramp if necessary. This map card is a 2016 C-map Lake Insight Pro-V 16 micro sd card (bought off the Personal Classifieds Forum) ... so the contours, position of buoys, and anything else marked on the map should be fairly accurate (on the lakes I fish) for many years to come.

Here's the best price I've seen on this card : Amazon.com: LOWRANCE Lake Insight Pro 2016 Map Card 000-12596-001: Cell Phones & Accessories
