The blade in the picture is size #1; I have used colorado blades size # 4 and a 1/8 oz. jig a long time ago for smallmouth bass, but never thought to use the b.spin for crappie! Thanks all for the incites.

Remember how big a bait a crappie can eat? I’ve used them with a blade as big as a nickel and slow rolled them near trees and brush along the bank when the spawn is close and they’re staging. BIG thump!

Ever tried switching out the colorado blade for a small willow leaf on beetle spins? Several years I got some small hammered silver willow leaf blades and found I was able to cover water faster & deeper. It does pretty well at keeping the lure down in current or on a faster retrieve. I pull them behind the kayak in Fall with a curl tail and have pretty good success. I'll also sometimes run a heavier jig head on a harness with a small blade for the same effect.

You're right that just about anything will eat them too.

Willow leaf blade - definitely worth trying as long as I don't have to move the lure too fast.

Sounds like you had a fun outing. Beetle Spins and Road Runners should always be tied on if you are fishing for pan fish.

    Can't complain:

(BTW, I keep fish counts to note the health of a fishery, how many fish were caught in a certain month on the lake as compared to different years and in general how much activity a lake averages.)

love me some beetle spins, favorite back in the day was the mr twister to catch a variety of species. now use smaller ones for crappie but still get a variety of fish. Road runners get similar results of course. Like the curly tails with spinners.

I wasn't happy with the thicker wire and size of most of my Beetle Spins so I came up with my own. Rather than a
wire hook to secure the jig, I used a bead that slips over both parallel wires.

Note the duo-lock snap. I fished the lure in my pond and found it did good avoiding weeds, but most of all
it didn't foul the line where the line tie is attached. It caught a crappie, sunfish and a small bass.
Think I'll make up some more just in case I fish a lake with pickerel.

    A funny thing happened yesterday:
The Beetle Spin was hanging over the side in the water while I was fishing with another rod and a 5" bass hooked itself on it. That's a first!

Good work, and not only looks good, it catches fish too.
