That's the way I unloaded mine for 40 years until I bought Dorotto automatic latch. I unhook the winch back up in the parking lot and the latch holds the boat. There is a rope on the latch to release it and I throw it over in the boat. I let the tailgate down before I back in. I back the boat in until the rear floats. I step over in the back of the truck and off the tailgate over into the boat and pull the rope that releases the latch, back off and tie the boat, usually to the dock.
When I load, I drive up on the trailer and the latches the boat. I step over on the tailgate, down on the ground and pull out. In the parking lot I hook up the winch and tighten in down.
Is the best thing invented since a pocket on a shirt.

Thanks folks. Shawn at Explore KY Lake.com asked me if I would consider doing some videos. I told him I would think it over if I could come up with some ideas. He told me to just be myself but if I did that all the time Shawn would be doing some serious editing.

The videos will be weekly but I’m open to ideas for content. Please PM me if you have an idea.

I have a Drotto latch and would love it if I used the same ramp at the same lake level. I use several different ramps, some of them very steep. I found when loading my Excel I had problems on several ramps with me not getting lined up correctly and it not latching.

I love this video. The ones that would have problems doing this way is the ones with those plastic bunk boards instead of carpeted wood. Doesn't take a lot on them then the ramp tied up for awhile with them trying to put there boat back on the trailer or push it to the water...I don't have that problem but some ramps are very steep and a bounce, or hit the brakes a little hard and those boats with plastic bunk boards will be sitting on the ramp dry. Just my thoughts folks. Loved the video and when I'm launching that's how I'll do it.

Nice video. I have a long rope I hold onto in the cab of the truck. I have to be careful not to back over it. Need a lot less rope this way will try next time
