Default ? About what you seeing.

A question if you see a few or a school of crappie on your sonar but do not see any structure. Would you set up on them to fish or let them go. Not including spider rigging or long lining or pulling cranks

On lakes with a thermocline and lots of flats that is the fish I'm looking for.

John, the only technique you left us to choose would be to cast to them. I guess you could drop a marker and fan cast the area, but I wouldn't likely spend a whole lot of time with them (unless they were HUGE fish). I say that's the only technique, because drifting or float/minner fishing is basically the same as Spider Rigging IMHO.

If those fish are out there all alone, no cover, bait balls, or dropoffs .... I would suspect they were in transition to another area, or "possibly" setting up in the area waiting on the bait to arrive. Even so, casting to them IMHO would be the least effective method of fishing for them ... and I'd probably Push jigs back and forth across them, even if only with 2 or 3 rods. Even then I'd probably only make 2 or 3 passes on them, then move on and search for a bigger concentration of fish (or bait balls).

Maybe they just follow bait fish. If I am not doing the three spider rigging, long lining or pulling cranks. Lot of times I will set up on the fish using rod holders and set out minnows and put my trolling motor on spot lock but there is some type of cover or structure usually. I never have done it when seeing out in open if this make sense.

I think now on I will set up on them just see what happens might not be able to see what on the sonar at the time but something there drawing the fish in that spot. Just not spend lot of time without catching anything.

more often than not they are in a traveling mode for whatever reason , might be following bait or headed to feed somewhere or possibly sit down for the day . Whatever the case may be more often than not they wont stay long and setting up on them is likely wasting time .

He's not "shouting" (using all caps) for emphasis .... he's just a little "hard of seeing".
