    Default Impeller

Just wondering how often the impeller should be changed. Last change was after 3 years and the old part looked like new.

3 years max IMO. Some Mercurys should be done every year.

    Being stranded sucks.

Just had mine changed. Mechanic said mercury recommends every yr. however he tells his customers every 3 to 5 yrs. I guess it depends on how often you run it. I went 10 yrs once but wouldn’t recommend that. The impeller was folded pretty bad and it was hardly peeing. The mechanic also said if a piece broke off I would have had a real problem.

What motor? All the ones I have ever done were super simple jobs....worst part is unbolting the LU from the leg and that's more of a hassle than being difficult...so I do mine every 1-2 years. Most impellers are $10-20 from my experience so no reason not to do it often. I think about the worst thing on one is just not being used, maybe moreso than a ton of hours on one over a short period of time.

FYI, when I assembly my impellers into the pump housing I douse it with Dawn dish soap for ease of installation, lube upon first startup, and then I guess I get some soap flushed through there to clean the water passages a little lol.

I guess I should have said. I have 90 Hp Mercury two stroke. Probably on the water between 30 to 40 times a year.

A 90 mercury with average run time. I think you'll be good every 3ys. I wouldn't go any more because mercury's will brake and get all in the block. I'm sure it can happen with any motor but I've seen it more with mercury.

I changed my merc 150 every year, too cheap to do vs taking a chance. However, I always knew it would go 2-3 safely
