    Default Question on Riptide Ulterra

Need a little help on picking out a new trolling motor I know I'm going with the Minn Kota Riptide Ulterra 54'' shaft 24 volt 80 lb. thrust question is should I get the link or non link which is 500 bucks difference. I'm just not sure how much or if I would ever use it I am also going to get 2 new Hummingbird units just looking for some opinions so any help would be appreciated.

Really depends on how you fish. I have no need for that but all I do is cast and shoot docks.

I know of 3 guys that have either the riptide or standard version of the Ulterra and none of them use the link setup. They paid the money and never use it. 2 are bass guys and 1 is a crappie man. So I guess it just gets down to how you fish vs the extra money for it.

It's a very nice feature, get close to a waypoint, poke it on your Bird, select go to and spot lock and BAAMM you're on your brush pile and fishn.....
When they upgrade the Riptide for the improved spotlock I'm gonna be all over it....

Agreed. I think it depends on the type of fishing you do. I primarily crappie fish and follow channels, contours, etc. spider rigging, pushing and pulling cranks/jigs. If you get the link you will need ethernet cables and an ethernet hub to network your units with the TM. I have 2 humminbird units that network and just bought a Riptide Terrova 80/60 with ipilot link. Don't know where you looking to buy, but I got mine at Northern Marine Electronics (learned about them on this site). I bought a factory remanufactured unit with a factory warranty and saved a little over $700. That more than covered the cost to upgrade from ipilot to ipilot link and the cost of the ethernet hub and cables. Recommend at least checking out the prices before purchase. Window shopping online doesn't cost a dime. Hope you find what you are looking for.

It is good to have if you are fishing a contour line, be it a weedline or a ridge, hit the button and the motor follows the line, you aren't constantly working, it does it for you.

If you fish the same areas a lot you can also create "tracks" on the trolling motor which can also be used to maintain a certain depth or follow a creek bed whatever instead of the getting or using the link.

I will pass on the same helpful information given to me, call Brian at BBG Marine. Will answer your questions, give solid advice and great prices and very quick free shipping as well.

I was in the same place you were on the link and after talking with Brian decided it would not be a worthwhile additional expense for the link for me.

Call Brian, you will not regret it!

Excellent advice. Brian is a good guy and is very helpful. I bought 2 Helix 7 G2s from him and the prices are really good and everything went flawless. I would have bought my TM from him too but he didnt have the remanufactured model I wanted because he sold out so fast. I would order from Brian again with no reservations

That is the tm that I have on my boat and we tight line all the time pushing jigs all day. I use the Ipilot Link a lot. I have 2 10" Helix and a 9" and can control the tm from it or the remote. When we do fish docks the Spot Lock is great and the Jog function is great also to move the spot. Almost messed up and bought the IPilot not the Ipilot Link and had to call and change my order. My son caught my error just in time. If you don't get it some day you will wish you had. Don
