I never find the words to express the respect and reverence that I feel for all of our vets. Vietnam Vets hold a special place as many were my age. I came eligible just after Vietnam and was told I wasn’t needed. You guys are all the best. Welcome Home!!

Though I am a few years too young to have served in Viet Nam, I did serve, As did My Brother 6 years before me. Dad retired in 1970 with 32 years in the Corps. Retired out of El Toro, and moved us all up to Barstow so he could go back to work for the Corps. He served 5 Tours of NAM. Came home different every time. I remember to this day not to touch him before calling his name...one time flying across the room was enough to teach me...
I was an in between soldier. In between conflicts, wars and such. I went active in June of '77, and was in the second batch that Clinton Put on the street walkin' after getting elected, when the democrats were closing bases and booting soldiers out on the military draw down. Because of them, I only served 16 yrs, 9months and 27 days. Gave me a bit of chump change they called "Separation Pay", Severance pay on the outside. When I filled for medical disability and was awarded 60% for my back, knees, hearing, etc. before I got a knuckle of any check, they took every penny of that "Separation Pay" back. Said if they LET me keep it, I would be Double Dipping the system...Well, I said all that to just clear my head a bit. Thanks for reading, and listening.
I may not have served in Nam because of age, but in my own way, I feel just as betrayed by the U.S. Govt., the CROOKED politicians, and all the rest of these "FOLKS who want all the benefits, and don't want to do the time. These knee takin' jokes of people that want to call them selves atheletes, and AMERICAN, and then take a knee because their feelings got hurt about something, yet they take home more in a week-end game than I do all year...Sorry for the rant, and discontent... I WILL END THIS with a Heart felt "THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE" to ALL MY FELLOW BROTHERS IN ARMS...AND A VERY BELATED …."WELCOME HOME!!!!!!" to all the BROTHERS IN ARMS WHO SERVED IN THE NAM, AND DIDN'TGET THE WELCOME HOME THEY DESERVED!!!!!!!

Vietnam veterans hold a special place in my heart, since I was in the Army during that era. When I was commissioned through ROTC in 1970 after graduating from college, I was branched Armor and sent to Germany.(Vietnam is not good tank country). I was informed that after that tour I would be sent to Vietnam as a "short tour", which is what they called it at the time. When I returned to this Country in 1972, I was in culture shock. I was in uniform since I had arrived ar McGuire AFB/Ft. Dix, NJ aboard a MAC flight. Tried to get a motel room so I could watch TV, since I hadn't seen one in 2 years. I was turned away twice from motels, I guess because I was in uniform. I finally found a 'flea bag" motel that would accept me. I got the same treatment that the Vietnam vets got in California when they returned from Vietnam. It was 1972, and I was informed that I was not needed in Vietnam since the drawdown had began. I feel a bit of guilt that I didn't have to go, but it was not my decision. Some people say I was lucky, but it still haunts me at times.

This was a totally useless war, fabricated by the politicians at the expense of 58,000+ lives of men and women. The Gulf of Tonkin Resolution that got us into that mess was totally fabricated. We didn't know how to fight that kind of war and didn't know how to win it!

To my fellow veterans of Vietnam.....you are appreciated for your service. When I see a soldier wearing a Vietnam veteran headgear, I thank him for his service even if I'm wearing mine that says retired. If you have such a cap....wear it and wear it proudly!! I salute you, and GOD BLESS AMERICA!

I just attended a funeral for a good friend, special forces in the Army who went on 3 tours in Vietnam. Had diabetes, cancer, lost a kidney through the cancer, on dialysis for 6 1/2 years. For this I am totally amazed and thankful for him and his service.. but as for the gov’t.... not so much

All Veterans should get more recognition for what they do and for whatever reason they are sometimes soon forgotten after returning home.We end up having to fight for and often denied things we were promised when we took an oath at the beginning of our service to this country.We come home lost and broken and sometimes live through nightmares on a daily basis only to hear them say there is nothing wrong with us.When we do get approved for a disability rating its hardly enough to live on.Many people never know what a veteran goes through but a fellow soldier does and without these soldiers it would be a lot harder for some of us to cope on a daily basis.Thank You to ALL my fellow Veterans for all you do every day.The job is never done.

I have sailed many seas, visited many ports and sampled many cultures. I have defended our nation in times of peace and times of war. I have see the faces of those in pain and those in need. I have seen times I wish I could forget, however, they are with me forever. I have seen the sun rise and set on the horizon which left me breathless. I have prayed to god that we make it through the worst of storms. I have fought fires because lives were at stake and there was no place to run. I have seen the eyes of the enemy and the place where they once stood. I have watched the clouds and the stars meet, felt the gentle breeze on my face and the gale force try to take me down. I have had the sun burn my skin and the cold reach my bones as I stood the watch. I have lost shipmates and those I called friends to storms and to the enemy. I could drink like the sailors of old and curse in ways that would make the devil blush. I respected the sea, for the day I did not, it would take my life. I did it all because it was my duty and my honor. I did it because I am A SAILOR.

I have great respect, would like to thanks, and shake the hand of every service member out there. My grandpa served it Korea. My Uncle was Air Born for three tours in Nam. (Three Purple Hearts. The last one sent him home missing an arm), and my brother served in Desert Storm. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU. Love and prayers for each and everyone.
