    Default Bull Shoals Bighead Carp

Just got my latest issue of Bass Times as I am a life member and still get it and their magazine. This article came up that a bow fisherman has shot a 45 lb Bighead carp in Bull Shoals and the Missouri DNR is shocking the lake to find more and not finding any as of yet. As I chat with fishing friends in Indiana, we are concerned with guys seining minnows out of our local creeks and selling them to small bait shops for resell to the public and Missouri is surmising this is maybe how this fish got into Bull Shoals a while ago for it to get so big as like our lakes, they have dams and are locked from the rivers unlike the Tenn. and Cumberland rivers with locks on them. This is why we cannot turn a blind eye to the problem of Asian Carp War no matter where we live or where we fish as the problem will never go away. It’s as bad as Iowa May have to shut down one of their large fish hatcheries due to Zebra mussels eventually clogging all their pipes providing water in the hatchery ponds. A minnow just doesn’t have to come from someone dumping their minnow bucket into Bull Shaols or any other lake we fish. It can possibly just slip out of the hand that is placing it on a fishing hook. Here in Indiana, just about every river and creek that feeds the Ohio covers our entire state. This is a heck of a problem for our future generations of fishermen to face.

I for one, have that concern down here. MS Wildlife & Fisheries have warning signs below the Big 4 dams about removing minnows from the rivers and using for bait in the main lake. While signs are good for honest people, there are some that don't care. Enforcement will be the problem.

Stupid is, Stupid does. All it takes is one bucket or a few minnows.
