Dang, sorry about the camera!

I use 10 lb mono Vicious stuff. I saw no difference in depth using 10 lb braid. The big variation (+/- six inches) is the bait itself. I didn't do a serious study though. My conclusion was there is little difference between these two line types at the distances I measured pulling weights. Weight, bait, and speed matter most.
I just test what is in my tackle box.

I've lost two cameras and my fishing partner's rod mount wrench. I'm so bad he has taken to fastening floats to all his gear lest I drop it over the side.

I am not following you on the blow back. Please explain. Ima beginner wit the crankbaits.
Ima doing this for myself mostly. Gives me something to do besides mow the lawn.
My leader is 8# Vicious mono. The reel line is 10#. I used this line cause I won it at Grizzly Jigs shindig.
I haven't the slightest idea what the drag coefficient of line or weight would be. I just looked at the sonar results. My slide rule is rusty.

That is what I was trying to ask. Some time only I understand what I am saying. LOL I believe blowback is the right term it is what you get it you were hanging your rig straight down then the faster you moved ahead the farther the line would angle aft. The amount of blow back would be determined by the water pushing against the line. the weight and in this case the pull of the crank bait. If I was any good at math I could figure lure depth by knowing the amount of line out and the angle of the line. I like your method better it doesn't make my old brain hurt trying to do the math. BTW I still have my dad's old slide rule thing is at least 60 years old now. Don
I thought so.
If I can keep my lines at a 45deg angle, then I just multiply the length of line below the surface by 0.6 and have a good idea of how deep my baits are running +/- (20ft of line out below surface x0.6 = bait at around 12ft deep). That's the formula most of the crank charts are based on, I think.
I tend to still use the same formula, when Pushing jigs, even though my lines are running way less than a 45deg angle ... so I just use the formula to tell me what the shallowest water I can go in is and not drag bottom.
Ok, I got it. I use torpedo shaped weights. Sometimes I have interference on my screen and I need a resetting.
