Default Ardent Krappie Kings rods for spider rigging?

Kicking around getting a dedicated set of rods for spider rigging. I had a gift certificate for Amazon and ended up buying a Ardent Krappie Kings KK14L-3G to try out. I wanted to try a 14' pole, and it was cheap enough for a graphite rod. Curious to see if anyone has used these rods and what your opinion of them is. I won't be spider rigging for a while so it's gonna have to sit and wait...

The tip seem really light, or fast. That should be good for rigging, I'd think. I don't think it's enough rod to pull cranks with. Would likely work for pulling jigs but I think it would load the tip pretty good.

Does anyone know if there are replacement tips available?

Can’t speak of those rods, but will say that I have pulled jigs, cranks, and spider rigged with my 12’ BGJP’s. Too light for pushing with ove an ounce. If you could compare one of these with the ardent it may be of some help. No idea if tips are available.

I use BnM Capps and Colemans for spider rigging. I have a dedicated set of rods for different methods. Pulling and pushing cranks I use BnM PST's.

The only downside to Pushing with a limber tip rod is (IMHO) that it could be hard to detect a bite, or in some cases even that you have a fish on, because the rod is nearly maxed out in its bend. Now, that being said, I have Pulled cranks/2oz weights with a 12' collapsible rod (buddy's boat/rods) and caught fish (and swung them in the boat).

The only Ardent rod I have is a 6' Med action spinning rod ... and it's much stiffer than any other 6' Med action rod I own.

Guys around here Push cranks/2oz weights on 14-16-20' rods at 1.8mph ... all the time. I Push jigs/cranks w/1.5oz weights on my PST and my two Capps/Coleman 14'ers at 1mph ... and the C/C rods do bend considerably more than the PST.

But, considering that the Ardent you have is a lite action rod ... it probably is "best suited" for SR'ing. But, I wouldn't count it out for Pushing/Pulling until having tried it out with jigs/cranks and various added weights. It might surprise you, like the 12' collapsibles did me. If nothing else, it will at least get you acclimated to using a 14' rod.

Thanks for the replies. I guess I'm the only Ardent crappie rod owner on crappie.com LOL

I "think" I want a specific set of rods for spider rigging. Light tips. These might be just the ticket. I really would like to know if replacement tips are available. If I have time I will call them tomorrow and see.

I looked at a 12' BGJP today just to compare and the Ardent has more backbone. Tip seems similar but that's subjective at best.

The only reason I have two 14' Capps/Coleman rods is because my buddy (who Spider Rigs with them & the 16' version) thought I was looking for Spider Rig rods when I asked him to get me a couple of the 14' PST's at the CUSA tourney he was attending. When I started using them to Push jigs, I was using 1/2oz weights and didn't see much difference in the tip bend between them & my PST. But, when I started using 1.5oz weights, the bend difference was very noticeable. The C/C rods have a lighter action tip.
Thanks FurFlyin thanked you for this post

Call the manufacturer to get the answer to your question.
