Default Swamp cooler final version near completion.....pics

Too hot to do anything but piddle, so I've been piddling. I corrected some of my original guesses and misses and now final version is in process. I had to remove the first stage radiator because of air flow restrictions. I replaced it my home grown cooling coil which I have used before in other contraptions. The cooling coil is just a coil of clear tubing with cold water running through it via submersed 12v mini pump (65 gph). The second stage cooling is by computer radiators, one per cooling channel.

Simple operation. The bilge blowers suck in air thru the cooling coil and blows the air out the radiators. Works just fine.

I use a 12v pwm circuit to control the fan motor speed which in turn controls air volume output. This particular Ebay pwm circuit will not output 100%, probably about 90-95% of the charge voltage..

The PVC top is rough cut as you can see. However it will be covered with styrofoam so neatness was not a concern at this point.

Here a few pics. You see then simplicity in construction. I wanrted everyone to see the guts before I sewed it up.

When I was stationed in Texas in the early 70's, my family and I rented a house that didn't have air conditioners, only two large swamp coolers. When they were on, it was like living on the beach with a wind blowing fresh moist air. The fans in each were at least 3' long and only had one speed - high. Never thought I'd hear that device mentioned in a crappie forum! Brings back memories of tornados, red dust storms, armadillos and heat waves of 100 degrees for 5 days straight! Those were the days....

ABS plastic 12x12 inch squares I whittled on. Bought out a bunch when Sears closed the item 20 years ago.

I remember those days. When I crossed the Mohave desert, I rented a cooler that you hung in your window at the edge of the desert and after crossing the desert I turned the cooler in at the the other side rental place. This was Hwy 66. No such thing as an interstate then and most cars and trucks didn't have air conditioners. Lots of cars didn't even have heaters. Heaters were an "option".
