Here in MA all we're allowed is 2 rods per person. Last time out we each had two rods out and I had one of mine pulling a crank. I had great luck on the one rod of mine pulling the crank. The other rod was a jig/plastic combo and my partner was using two rods with jig/plastic combos. There were several periods where my one crank rod consistently took more fish! Here are a couple of pics from that trip:

It works! Give it a try.

Definitely go for it, ‘cause there will be times that it will take both hands to stay up with just one rod.

I pull cranks all summer with one boring fishing rod, but the good thing about crank-in every species in the lake will bite, on average I hook some type of fish every 10-15 minutes.

I get tangled too easily if I try to pull more than 2 rods at a time from my kayak. Last time out I boated 60 crappie & 2 bass pulling crankbaits on 2 rods and I had to quit fishing at noon. It was tricky keeping two lines in the water at times. It was a blast and never seemed like a waste of time to me.

You forget the plus side of only 2 poles. You don’t need 8 of each color.
