    Default Whisper ketchn

I ketch a fair number of fish foul hooked and often wonder how it actually happened . Did the fish peck at the jig and try to back off it ? Did it maybe rise to look and brush against the line as it approached and or was leaving ? Or could it just be a large number of them and one just got in the way ? Better yet they were fighting over my offering and in the struggle to be the one the one that wasn't actually was ….? Or did it just whisper at my offering and I decided that was enough ?
of course my abnormally hard fast hook sets could have some play in it as well I suppose …..
The things I wonder about …..

If most of your foul-hooked fish are being hooked that far back from the mouth, I favor your hard hook-set being the cause. When we used to snatch hook tilapia they be hooked well back in the body like that most of the time. I guess we could always just ask one of those “paper mouths”, but you know how tight-lipped they can be sometimes. lol

I've often wondered about that myself. And you may have the answer because I set the hook pretty good to. Lots of people think that crappie have soft mouths and they are right but take a jig and try to hook him in the roof of the mouth with you hand... you will see it take more than you would think.

With todays lazer sharp hooks. It is really hard to not get stuck in the finger or hand.Be careful around kids, dogs and cats.My to cents.

I say you are hooking one in the school higher in the water column than the one that actually pecked your jig....
