I use a Duo snap, no swivel and use a pretty good size one so its easy to open and close. And yes, tied directly to the braid. Keep in mind our water is dingier than most, clear means we can see a couple feet.

We use snaps here. But only reason is to change colors faster and quicker

Last summer, I fished two rods, one mono, the other braid. The mono rod outfished braid every time. Not sure why, both were running at similar depths with identical lures.

This year I'm running mono leaders with braid and lead core. Mono tied directly to braid with Alberto knot, snap swivel on the end.

I like braid because I can get cranks pretty deep without weight, 16-18ft for me.

I don't like the lack of stretch, but it doesn't matter as much for crappie.

I have lost several good walleyes because of braid. If you don't have a flexible enough rod or the drags set perfectly, you will lose the hookset after one good head shake, or the hooks will get yanked away so fast preventing it in the first place.

20 lb. power pro, attached to a swivel, then 2 feet of 8-10 lb mono or floro and then a snap.

Have I got it backwards here?
Just learning so bear with me.
All my rods ,10-14 ft, have 6 lb P line mono on them.
Anger losing a nice crank to a catfish I added a swivel and a 2 ft braid leader.

Y’all seem to be doing the opposite.
    Water here is pretty dingy

    Thanks

Sorry guys, smart phone 15mph winds and autocorrect needed that up good.
If you are going to use a mono lead then you don't need braid, not worth the headaches. I fish braid for one reason , conservation of my baits, period.

Adding a braid leader will not give you much, maybe a little more abrasion resistance. But if it works for you, by all means, keep doing it.

The attributes of braid make it work well as a main line (great UV resistance, no stretch, low memory, etc.), adding a leader of some sort can make it more versatile.

I use 15lb Stealth braid or lead core with a 10-12ft Trilene big game mono leader on my trolling rigs. I just bought a spool of 10/1 Power Pro to try out, maybe I will get a little more depth out of it.

The crank bites are reaction strikes so being line shy is not an issue. I just use the mono or floro leader out of habit and to add a little bit of shock leeway.

Likely going fishing tomorrow, I have some snaps on Cranks and I have some snap swivels on Cranks, I’ll see what the difference is if any. Thanks
