Meguires makes a Cutting compound that works great. I have used it several times with great success

3M Marine restorer and wax work great. This Marine Restorer and Wax is a dual-purpose product. It is both a rubbing compound and wax. I found the product to be effective in removing oxidation, rust, stains, scratches, spots, and other imperfections.

When I built boats, we looked for a .025 thickness of gel coat. More and it lost its flex and less and it just didn’t last. Patch and polish would burn through it on occasion doing a repair and they would locally res pray and bring it back to match the surroundings. Only reason I bring this up is cuz if you get carried away you’ll have holidays or weak spots that you might not be able to fix.

When buffing tape and cover anything you do not want covered in compound. especially like rub rails other wise you will burn them, they melt and turn white if hit by accident with the buffer. For this type of buffing me personally would not use a DA style buffer but a pure circular buffer with variable speed. I do a lot of work on automotive paint and use 3M medium cut yellow pad ( can use a cotton pad but it can leave swirl marks by itself ) then 3M swirl remover with the gray pad. For wax I really like Turtle wax ICE easy on does a great job of protecting it lasts for along time about 2 years or more. I use it on by boat and vehicles. In my opinion the only thing better is a ceramic coat.

I know it’s already been said, but keep the buffer moving and don’t apply to much pressure. You will burn through and it will have to be recoated.

How about cleaning aluminum boat? Without damaging decals/stripping.
