Default Cleaning fish while on trip

I'm wanting to take a two day trip and stay in a hotel. I'm having a problem finding a place to clean fish. Any suggestions? Clean on my tailgate and put in cooler with ice? Keep scraps in truck in bag? I also hate cleaning without an electric knife.

Keep them on ice and clean them when you get home. Might be the best way

They make DC powered electric fillet knifes. With their own power supply or 12volt supply. Some big lakes have cleaning stations and some don't mainly because of misuse and vandalism. They stopped having a cleaning station on my small lake years ago because of this. Now as far as where else to clean if they are laws against cleaning out on the water you may need to get a 5 gallon bucket of water and use it to clean up your fish then most hotels have a out side large waste bin you can throw the trimmings into. Good luck and I will be looking forward to seeing your fishing reports and pictures.
Be safe and good luck fishing

Here is what I would do. Learned this commercial fishing back in late 60’s. Take them and do what we called gill and gut them. On belly side where gills join body at gill base, cut right through there to free lower portion of gill’s then slit belly to anus, once that is opened up grasp the gills and give them a twist pulling them looose from base of skull, then just pull out, all the guts will come out all together with the gills. Then just store in ice. Gills and intestines is where your spoilage will start and leaving head attached to spinal column keeps from losing spinal fluid which keeps meat from drying and spoiling. Then when home just fillet as usual.

What Cray said is the way a smokehouse dome friends used when I was a kid wanted the fish that they would smoke prepared. Mouth had to be intact to hang in the smokehouse.

Get a 12 volt fillet knife. Run a 12 volt circuit to the rear of the truck and put a 12 power outlet just inside the gate. Take some ziplock bags for the fillets and some trash bags for the guts. Cutting board. Pick up a water container with a spigot on it that flips up and stays on and some liquid soap. You use the water container just like a faucet to clean up you hang it off the tailgate. With the scraps bagged they can go in trash. Fillets to cooler.Roll of towels and small stiff brush to clean off board.

You can make a extension cord to plug in a 12 volt outlet in the truck or boat if you don't want to hard wire in a permanent receptacle.

Get a good headlight preferably one the lamp will tilt down some ....and I also like a LED lantern to set up. If you are going to clean in the dark

I have just put the whole fish on ice and cleaned them when I got home too. As long as they are in plenty of ice they are okay for three or four days. IF you keep them cold enough. A good cooler helps and is a must in warmer weather. Make sure it has a drain on it and keep the water drained off and the fish packed good in ice.

I throw a wood shipping pallet in the back of my truck and a board the size I want and clean on that sometimes. It raises up the cleaning board. If it's not high enough it makes my back hurt leaning over too much.

Thanks guys I think I have a solution. I remembered that we have an outlet that plugs into a car cigarette lighter. I can plug my knife into that.

It sounds more complicated than it really is.
