Went fishing the other day just to get my boat out in the water, try out my new "78" model Johnson motor, and get my line wet for the first time this year. It was windier than all get-out. Well, while buzzing around the lake that NO ONE ELSE WAS STUPID ENOUGH TO BE ON, I found some crappie structure on my fishfinder, marked it with a bouy, and started fishing it.
It was about 25-feet off this particular dock. The owner came home, immediately hopped off his bike, left it running, and ran down the hill (tripped twice...making my keeping a straight face all the more difficult), and proceeded to come out to the end of the dock and yell at me about fishing his structure he put out. He asked me how I found it...I told him with my fishfinder. He was upset enough that if the water wasn't 47-degrees, he probably would have swam out to visit. I told him that there was an interesting thread on a website called Crappie.com that deals with the idea of fishing other people's structure in public waters, and that he might want to check it out. He went inside upset.

I wonder if he went in to read it.

I don't get upset when other people fish my structure... If it is someone that isn't local , I know that they will be gone in a few days at the most. If it persists I can move it to a new location.

Where were you MrWillis? Lake Sara, East Fork???? Just curious. I know there's been a lot of development around those lakes and there may be some who are a bit uninformed about where their property line stops, i.e., the water line.

Good for you for educating him about the threads about this issue here on this site! And you're a better man than I am for keeping a straight face while he's literally tripping over himself to give you a piece of his mind...

Tripped TWICE...downhill! Actually, there is another lake just the other side of East Fork that has the biggest bluegill I have ever seen. I was on Borah lake. You will have to try it. If you don't know it, PM me and I will give you directions.

Another Crappie fisherman I see all the time in the area of Oologah I fish, stopped by to chat today while I was sitting over one of the more familiar hotspots. We shared info for awhile, then he asked if I knew the fella who launched a scamp at the ramp. I said no, why do you ask? He told me that the guy was fishing a line of sumbmerged trees when he put in. And that he motored over across the 300 yard creek to fish a steep drop bluff loaded with brush. Another popular spot with the locals. The guy in the scamp came over to him and started in on him about how he took his big boat and high tailed it across the creek to beat him to "HIS SPOT"! My friend just laughed at him letting him know that he had been fishing this lake for 42 years and it was the first time he ever knew that people could own a certain spot.
What idiots there are in this world. I invited him to come belly up to the crappie bar with his boat, we talked, laughed, caught fish. Laughed at the number of people on the weekends that can never make up their mind where they want to fish. You guys know the kind, buzz from one spot, to the next, each trip being at least a half mile or better. Then spend five minutes and turn around and buzz right back to where they were before. We laughed at the fact that each time they went by, it seemed to stir the fish up around us into a feeding frenzy. Might have to cinch the anchor a couple of times and even reset it if it's windy, but, one gets to know the regulars in a certain area. Share the info, share the spots, catch em while they're there, cause an hour after you're gone, more fish gonna move right in and restock it.
Respect the people that give you respect, those that don't, will give you a good laugh every time. I tell ya, I lub dim guys.

people have a hard time understaning that the water is public waters and any "private" brushpile put in public waters becomes public property. if they dont want people fishing "their" brushpiles, then they should get em ready, and then set em out around the edges of their yards for their "private" enjoyment.

The only way I can see how someone could "claim" a spot on "public" water would be to build their condo and then build their dock around it. Could get expensive but then a fool and his money is soon parted.....

Tell you what. It happened about a week ago now, and I caught myself laughing out loud about the guy tripping down the hill again yesterday...to the point my wife asked me what I was laughing about.
