    Default Chop dat Wood

I'm curious how this wood choppin vertical jiggin technique is so popular with beginners. I by no means am trying to poke fun at anyone, or make myself out to be the next crappie hero but I just don't get it. I was blessed to have someone take me under there wing while I was young and teach me how to chase these critters.

But seems like every time I go out I see atleast one person going up and down as fast as they can given all they got and it just makes me cringe. It just seems to me if u new nothing that's exactly what u would do ... Nothing just hold it there. How does this choppin wood method keep getting passed down? I never say nothing to them for fear of sounding like a no it all, but question if I should. Maybe they would like help but affraid to ask. Anyone else see a bunch of this or is it possibly just my area.

If you're talking about jigging a jig, what wrong with jigging it. Last week I was fishing next to a fella who is well schooled in catching and saw me jigging. He ask if I mind if he told me a tip as to how to catch. I said go ahead. He said hold you jig completely still and they will bite. A few minutes later he also told me that my loop knot allowed the tail of my jig to hang downward in an unnatural look for a minnow. Well after I caught three to his none he didn't have any more tips for me. Just saying.

Where I fish the minnows move around, up and down, and side to side. That's what a moving jig does.

I'm talking about the constant up and down movement 90mph, like a axe choppin wood. That's why I asked didn't know if it might possibly be just a local thing. I'm not one to offer tips, I prefer to go "black ops" in an out never seen or known I was ever there. Sometimes just feel bad especially when there's a kid involved and spring fish are packed in like maggots and there not having any luck. But certainly don't want a situation like u described just curious if anyone offers help to folks they clearly see struggling.

i say offer away, but that's just me. Heck, I don't care who they are or how old but especially if theres a youngin involved.
I usually don't just blurt out that I think they fishin wrong but someone'll usually ask how I'm a catchin them and that opens the door for me to give some friendly advice.

I'm not one to go up to someone and offer advice, unless it's asked for, I don't appreciate unsolicited advice myself either.

Let em chop wood. Some days it probably produces, other days a slower approach pays off. That's fishing.

if I understand the question I think you mean float fishing ?
its a fine art and you have to know your fish and some wont give it second glance if you are popping cork your jigs , but in many spots I hit you want to jerk and dive and pop the float like stupid and let it sit one or maybe 2 seconds after about 4 or 5 of those ....if you do it right it will go down like a rock at about a half second after its stands still .
sum kawl me tha outlaw ketchn whales
