What's you go to size jighead for winter cold water as were having now?(teens at night). Mine's a 1/24th. Vertical jigging.

Depends how deep I am fishing. The deeper I fish the larger the jighead I use. On lake Fork you can fish for crappie in 40 foot of water. You will never feel a 1/24 jighead in that deep of water.

This time of year I am catching 40-45 deep in 65 FOW 5/16, or 2 1/4oz jigs is my favorite.
    1/8 to 25’
    Tandem 1/8 to 35’ or a single 1/4.

My take on that is that the sensitivity of the line would determine if the hit could be felt. Using mono, I agree that it would never be felt. With tiny braid like power pro 10/2 I think the hit would be a faint tic, but it could be felt. Having done this in 50+ fow I will say that it takes a very long time for a light jig to fall, and crappie love to hit on the fall and having that much slack line for that long would count for more missed fish than usual. I fished standing timber and used brush guard jigs trimmed just enough to keep me out of trouble, with weights of 1/8 or1/4. These gave a quick drop time and a thump like the rod was hit with a stick. Hope this helps.
