I though about installing something like this, but a lot of mounts I see go directly to the side rail of the boat. My boat has a curved side which makes it hard to mount any rod holders. Does this mount to the deck and is it removable?

Absolutely. I found them when I was shopping for great Crappie rods and ended up buying Pro Angler who also sponsor the Bee Ready pole holders. There are many others on the market also both for rods and rod holders. You should be able to find something you like rather easily. Even if you don’t use them for spider rigging they are extremely helpful in vertical jigging with more than one pole. I normally hold one pole and fish adjacent to one or two more in proximity allowing me to see the subtle movement of all in order to set the hook. You just have to raise the one in the holder as they are made to release the rod instantly.

As for rod holders, don't forget about Driftmaster, they are a sponsor here on the site and make some great stuff. They also make "singles" if you only want to add one or two. Excellent customer service as well, you can call and talk to the owner David Baynard for custom work if needed. Great guy.
