Whichever you decide, auto-pilot, foot-controlled, or hand-controlled, MAKE SURE IT IS A MINN KOTA!!!! The best hands down is my opinion and I have owned them both...

I much prefer MINNKOTA. I made a mount for the front of my jon that lets me interchange my foot control for river fishing and brush fishing with my Copilot power drive for trolling. Only problem with the Copilot is that you do not have fine enough speed control. But it sure is handy.

That was going to be my question, how is the speed controll on auto pilot, is it infinite or in increments?

Infinite. Uses a sliding switch labeled 1-10 or anywhere in between. Love that auto pilot.

The speed control for the foot control on an autopilot is infinite, but the speed control on the Copilot is in increments, which is a trade-off I,m willing to make.

I have a Minn Kota powerdrive with co-pilot and I love it. There is one draw back I have on mine - the skeg on my trolling motor is on the front of the head instead of the back. I have a trolling motor mounted tranducer and I think the water disturbance from the skeg interferes with my sonar readings. I have learned to adjust the sensitivity to compensate. The powerdrive and te variable speed is excellent

I have the power drive minnkota with hand held remote and universal sonar. Mounted on a deep V Lund. Get the 24 volt. I have the 12 but if I upgrade it will be to the 24 volt. Spot lock works great, point the nose of the boat into the wind and hit the spot lock button.
