How much weight for spider rigging

I noticed that the article on spider rigging on this site said to use 1/2 oz. of weight unless the wind was up and then use 3/4 oz. However, I've got a couple of friends who tell me they use 2 oz. weights and one of them said he would go up to 4 oz. if the wind was up. I was wondering how much weight you spider riggers use and what kind of weight: dimpsey sinker, bass casting sinker (has brass tie on), egg sinker, etc.?

Size of weight depends on several conditions.
1 line weight
2 lure or bait
3 speed
4 depth fishing

Here we use anywhere from split shot to 1 oz of lead. Most use minnows to spider rig here. Some use jigs tipped with minnows. Our lake is shallow and trolling can mean 18'' to 12' deep. Just remember the heavier lines create more drag and require more lead. Some troll 40 lb test line 12' deep here and require a big sinker . Others may troll 10 lb test 18'' deep and need just a couple of split shot.

We troll 8 pound line about 4 to 10 feet deep. Depending on speed we use 1/4 to 3/4 ounce.

Use the lightest you can get away with. I use 1/4 majority of time. If it's windy I'll go heavier. You'll get more jig action with lighter weight.

Use 3/8 and 5/8. I have had days were a heavier wieght would have been nice, but it get the job done most of the time.

I use weights from 3/4 oz to 5 oz, depending on depth and conditions. I use the 5 oz weights for fast trolling with my heavier rigs.

I appreciate the info. I got to looking at the articles on the B & M Poles website, and it seemed like the consensus was 1/4 and 1/2, but one guy used 1 1/2 oz. to locate them in pretournament fishing and then went to 1/2 for the actual tournaments and another guy used 6 oz!

I use 2 oz. year round b/c it keeps you're line vertical when you're fishing in deep water, keeps the lines from tangling as easy, and it's better for fishing in windy conditions. It worked for my dad and a buddy today. This is a pic of 56 fish in a 48 quart cooler.

I'll generally stay around 5/8 to 3/4 ounce on a double jig or hook set up.
