The only direction I see it working is back towards rear of boat behind tm head. Is loosening set screws and sliding holder quicker than loosening and removing? I appreciate all the info guys. Here's on overhead view of deck with tm stowed so you can see what I'm dealing with.
Can you stow your TM with the head turned the opposite direction? If so want that take some of that cable out of the area?

If I didn't want to give up my DI on tm for front lowrance gen 2 touch, I'd replace tm with an xi5 and do away with steering cables! But I don't want to have a 20 foot lag in DI from front ducer to back ducer!

I understand that part for sure. Maybe there is another idea out there that can help you. As I'm sure you have, I've spent hours on hours trying to lay out the perfect set up on my boat......then take it fishing a couple of times and change it. Guess that's part of the process we have to go through to "get it right". Good luck!

Son your other question, I would get a piece of plywood and drill a hole with that bit and check it for grip, then go up and down until I had the size I was comfortable using.

I've put 16 holes in the front of mine (plus a few more when installing them) and its just fine. Just make sure the screws are long enough to go through the padded carpet, I think I used 2". All the wires run down conduit built in to the gunnel.
