I see lots of fish killed when minnows are swallowed and large number of poles makes it worse . A spider rig with 8 poles and 16 hooks can gut hook lots of small Crappie .

I've asked the Ohio dnr people the past 2 years about a proposed change in pole limit, and they give me the same dumb look each year, I explain the surrounding states all allow more poles and as long as the current creel limit is followed whats the big deal! they always say they havent heard of any changes. I did hear that in Ohio if your boat is rated for 4 people you have to have 4 life vest on board at all times, no matter how many people are on board! There is no hope for Us Northern Spider riggers! I just bring someone along so I can run 4 poles

Talked with DNR...they said the biggest reason for not changing the law is that Ohio's lakes and reservoirs are basically too small. He gave me an example that when 2 people are trolling with 6 rods out it can be intrusive to other fishermen (bank/dam or in boats). He also stated that not everyone is in favor of having the law changed....about 50/50. This law in NOT written in stone and that it is being discussed quite often during meetings and seminars. They also told me that if there are to be any changes in this or any other laws that the public can be informed by going to ohiodnr.gov and clicking on "fishing regulations"
Guess this will have to suffice for now.
