Thanks for the info Skeetbum, I like the idea of using the snaps. I use to do that when fishing for big blue cats. To keep the weights from beating the rods to death on the trips. Also made changing weights easier if I needed more or less weight. I am going back home for Thanksgiving and will try it on my hometown lake - Tillery. I know there are lots of good crappie on that lake.

I'm looking at this idea myself.
What do y'all think about long lining from the back at .6-.8 jigs 1/4oz and pushing 3 bandits on the front? I'm thinking 3 0z sinkers 3 way to snap swivel
    Like skeetbum suggested.
Most fish are suspended at 15ft in 22-30fow or right on the bottom within foot or two.
I normally catch fish long lining deep and slow but time after time I see guys pulling cranks catching suspended fish at 15fow when I can't get a bite.

Very good idea y'all have here thanks!

I thought pulling cranks was mainly a warm water thing, late spring or summer what water temps are you guys pulling in?

Around here we usually start when the water temps get around 70 early in the year (post spawn) and stop when water temps drop below 60 late in the year. But, yeah ... most success comes when it's hot (air & water) as the fish start roaming open water, chasing Shad schools on the flats. Mostly it's White Crappie that hit the cranks, but occasionally we'll hang into a Black Crappie.

Does anyone have a diagram of how there setup is including knots at each tie?
Think most my trouble always comes from knots. Idk many of them to well.

Mine is simple : main line is run thru a egg sinker, then a bead - then tied to a duo lock snap with a Improved Clinch knot - then the leader has a loop knot on one end & a jig on the other (tied with a Improved Clinch knot) ... and the loop knot is hooked into the duo lock snap, and I'm ready to

A swivel could be substituted for the duo lock snap .... as either will do the job of holding the sinker on the main line & holding the pre-rigged leader.

The Improved Clinch knot is easy to tie : run line thru the hole (jig eye or clip/swivel) and twist it around itself 4-6 times, then run the end through the loop opening next to the "hole" and then back through the loop next to the twists you made around the main line. Wet the line and slowly cinch it closed, and trim off the excess tag line.
