Ordered the new bnm 6ft sharpshooter direct from bnm, it arrived today. Put a reel with 6lb line and 1/32oz jig. Our weather is really bad today so I shot it under the garage door. Feels good with more backbone then I expected, can sling a 32oz great. Will put it to the test as soon as weather permits. The folks at bnm are great to deal with. caught nothing under the garage door.
Could not find it anywhere else.

Might have to look into one of these. Not many docks to shoot where I normally fish, but plenty low limbs that might be good for shootin.

Been using the sharpshooter for 6 or 7 years. Broke 1 and dropped 1 over the side in that time but always ordered a new one. Guess that shows how much i love that rod. Mine is the 5.5 model. I'm going to get a 6 with my X-mas gift money.

With all the storms we had yesterday and last night I was able to find some water to fish. It was stained, fished about 4 hours and caught 4 good fish. Found them under floating docks, the new bnm is the best rod in my boat. I have a ozark dock shooter the only problem is the power handle is to long, shooting small opening makes it hard to aim. The bnm allows you to aim at small opening without getting the power handle stuck in my belly. Shoots straight and long.

I am glad for you, I live in Bartlett, TN and we barely have anywhere to fish, and no docks.

I can offer you a few "suggestions" on using the Ozark rod to dock shoot :

If it isn't necessary for use in other methods of fishing ... you "could" cut the extension off.

You could hold the rod farther away from your body, when shooting the docks.

Don't aim with the rod ... aim with the line between the bait & rod tip.

I shoot docks with my ESP PowerLite 6'6" rod, which has the extended handle like your Ozark. The difference between the 6' version & mine is the 6" of handle extension ... so if it were a "problem", I'd have no qualms about cutting the 6" extension off & still use it for all the same methods I currently use it.

When dock shooting, I extend my arm/rod out from me ... lining up the line between the rod tip and jig with the surface of the water, just a few inches in front of the opening I'm trying to shoot through. Gives me maximum "skip" distance under the dock/pondtoon.

Thanks for the reply, I fish from a stik steer boat. This keeps me seated, I am almost seventy so I like the idea of once I am in the boat there is very little need to move around. I also fish by myself most of the time. I aim pointing the rod at my target and holding the jig under the rod. My stik steer allows me to be low to the water makes for a good skip and long shot. I have though about cutting the end off the ozark, just not sure how it will look when done. There is a cork end on the rod that looks like trouble trying to put it back on.

If you do cut the poodle tail off, I'd cut it flush with the cork end of the main handle ... then fill the open end of the blank with a cork plug, wood dowel, or glue a plastic cap to the end of the handle.

The cork "tail" would go with the extended blank section that you cut off .... putting that extension back on would be tough, but may be doable with a dowel rod inserted. But, if I had any doubts about doing it, or intentions of putting it back on some day ... I probably wouldn't cut it off to begin with.

The biggest problem I've had with a extended handle rod, is getting the poodle tail hung in my clothing ... but, that mostly happens when I'm seated & reeling in (and have on more than just a T-shirt).

IMHO ... the extended handle (what I call the "poodle tail") doesn't really serve much purpose for Crappie fishing. I really don't need it for a good hookset, or fighting/controlling a fish.

Just received my B&M Sharp Shooter 6, looks like B&M has really beefed up their dock shooting rods with this model. This rod is very stiff compared to the shorter models in the past. Bought mine from Grizzly Jig, they don't add extra shipping for rods 6ft and under. I believe this rod has the potential to become my go to rod for dock shooting, I really like the feel of this rod.
