I've never done any dock shooting but I do enjoy casting for crappie and I am in the market for a quality casting rod capable of casting a 1/32 - 1/8. Sounds like I'd be happy with any of the rods highlighted in this thread. However, equally as important, what's a great reel compatible to these rods to make this set up complete, balanced, effective and most functional for what I've mentioned. Not trying to high jack the thread, just figured you guys would know best ! Thanks and congrats on the purchase, hope it serves you well !

I use my ESP 6'6" PowerLite rod for casting & dock shooting ... my reel is a Shimano Spirex 1000RE spooled with 6lb test Vicious Panfish copolymer hi-vis line.

ESP rods have "Tenn handles", which makes them much easier to balance a reel since you can move the reel along the handle to find the sweet spot. A fixed seat rod requires a specific weight reel to balance very well with. And you're right in wanting a balanced outfit to cast with !!

I always get great deals like that at Academy. When I'm near one, I stop! They were selling 12' BGJP's at my local store for $25 and 10's for $20. Gonna stop on Friday to see if I can find a sharp shooter. My lake is loaded with docks.
Fishing is like pizza.......Even when it's not that good, it's still pretty good!

The new Sharpshooter is killer for dock fishing and casting. I love the fixed handle, great back bone, and micro tip. I can shoot a 1/24oz jig underneath a 32" foot pontoon and hit the header on the dock putting the bait right in the dark spot every time. The pole has just the right stiffness to shoot with great velocity and accuracy but also detects that light tick. BnM did their homework on this new pole! I strongly suggest you guys try them.

You must be talking about the new Sharpshooter Six !! The 5' rod has a cork Tenn handle/rings setup. Hmmm ... maybe BnM heard my comments about them being too "whippy" and changed them to a more fast action tip (I may have to ask Jack if that's the case ) I do see where they're listed as "med" action, so they may well have bulked the action up a little from the soft / parabolic bend action of the original 5' Sharpshooter rods.

Glad you guys are liking them. One of the things we did to increase accuracy was put a micro-eyelet on the tip. These we designed and developed by our Pro Staff and they are loving them too.
