Final coat of paint and I'll be back at work at 5am to pick it up. More pics tomorrow
I have a transom mounted trolling motor right now that's about 15 years old. Keeping the boat going where I want when I'm moving too much is becoming a pain.
Picked up a used 45lb Minn Kota V2 which is perfect size for my little 16' CC. There's a rail on my bow that's in the way of simple installation so I'm making a little platform to mount the motor onto. It'll give me place to store a couple more little things under it along with the battery. Moving some weight up front will help me to plane with my dinky 40hp loaded with 3 people and gear
I wasn't looking for perfection or 10 year durability on the platform. The whole point of this project was to keep the cost down as much as possible and allow me to enjoy my hobby a little more, and increase my catch.
I made a quick template out of foam with a knife. It was rough but the wood would even out. It's hard to tell in the photos as none were taking when I did this step, but I cut the wood at 90 degrees to my template as I was cutting to make it easier on the saw and allow me to curve the cuts a little. As the line was being cut with the saw, the pieces of wood to the right were falling off as they were all cut to meet the line at 90 degrees.
I had to clear the rail so I made a little platform for the trolling motor base, put it all together using deck screws and used an epoxy paint to cover it all up. I'll post more photos when I go back to the marina to mount, wire, and try her out!

Looks good, should work fine.
Creativity is just intelligence fooling around
Good looking job. Smart idea.
Trying to install a Minn-Kota Powerdrive on the front of my small pontoon. The manual gives ONE measurement, 1 1/2" from the deployed shaft to the front of the boat. Which is great but I cannot deploy the thing while on the trailer. It doesn't give ANY measurement data referencing the base. Which is stupid.
Anyone have any measurements referenced to the BASE and not the motor shaft?
Tom
Looks like you know what your doing, great job
