Small jigs on a medium light?

Will a medium-light rod cast 1/32 and 1/16 oz. jigs well? Or should I invest in a light or ultralight rod?

You will need to go UL or L to cast a 1/32....regards.

I think it depends on the length of rod and line size. I use a 1/32 all the time in spring and cast using a 7' Avid St. Croix or I have a one piece rid that I had made that is 8' and don't have any trouble casting that size jig!

I also have some shorter rods that are UL & Light that don't do any better! This is just my opinion though.

I don't know that I would go all the way to an UL!

The thing about it is there is no standard in the industry from one manufacture to another. Having said that I have never seen a medium light rod that could cast a 1/32 jig for optimum distance.

Myself....I use nothing but 2# test and usually throw a 1/64 jig.

Thanks for your responses. I think I'm gonna take a look at some light power rods.

I always fish light. I never go over 4 lb test line and never over 1/32 oz jigs. I catch lots of big fish. Light line is more fun, small jigs sink faster, you have better feel. Learn how to back reel and you will never go back. Snags are snags, break it off and tie on a new jig no big deal. I know for a fact I catch more and much bigger fish going light. Useing 4 lb line compared to a guy next to me fishing 8 lb I catch 3:1 more fish than him, happened last week same bait.
