Best Spot To Pull Crankbaits From

Guys this weekend I started in my attempt to pull crankbaits. I've heard some people mount their rod holders on the side of the boat and others mount them at the back. What do you think is best and why.

Me and a partner fish 14 baits at a time on 12 rods. I have an 18ft lowe stinger with perotti racks in each corner of the boat. Out back of each side we run a 4ft, 7ft, 10ft out front on each side I run an 18ft, 14ft, and 12ft on inside with two 3 way swivels and two cranks on a 4oz weight as a down rigger. It sounds like a crazy set up but works ver well. The guy in back of the boat has to help me as boat control is critical to keep things in order. It has taken me three years and a lot of playing around to find my most efficient set up. Good luck and put them where its handy and go from there.

Dongotto can u explain a little further how you hook up the 3 way swivels and weight for 2 cranks? Thanks

I've tried pulling from both the sides where I can see the rods while sitting down at the console and from the back where I have to sit on the front casting deck of the bass boat I fish from. I pull from the back a lot more because I have to make a lot of turns where I fish and it seemed to me that I get my 6 lines tangled up a lot less when pulling from the stern. I run a 7', 10' and 12' rod on each back corner and it works out very well for how and where I troll. On the other hand, if I am deploying planer boards to really get the lines away from the boat then I will use two rods on each side and two straight back otherwise it becomes a mess.

Fished KY Lake this afternoon by myself. I run my Hi Teks off the back and down the sides. Today my side racks were in front of the console with 10' and 14' rods in each, my down rods were on the outside of the rear rack with 5 oz of weight on Carolina rig with 2 more rods in each rear rack. All rods on the rear were 7 footers. Total of 10 rods out with Bandits and Lindy Shadlings. Can't buy a strike on the Shadlings.

I have mine on the sides. 3 on each side 16', 12' and 8'. It's easier for me to man the rods, watch FF, and control tm. Plus it keeps the back clear for landing fish.

Bow, port, starboard, and stern. I put them all the way around.

If you are just starting out, put them where you can see and get to them easily. On a side console boat usually means one off the stern (port but aimed towards motor) and 2 off the sides (one short and one long). As you get better (on both boat control and routine of catching and setting lines back) add more rods.

I have Hi-Tec holders on all 4 corners of my boat. I'll pull 6 baits off of the rear, push either 2 or 4 baits from the front with my 3 oz pushing rigs and sometimes I'll have a planer board off of each side. That will keep you busy. Lol.
