I used 12' ers for many years with good success. I now prefer 14' ers. Either will work fine, the 14's just give you a wider spread and more distance from the bow.

I just made the transfer from 11' 12's to 14' for spider rigging. Haven't had the 14's out yet, but put them together and man do they seem ackward. Its going to take me some time to get use to.
I'm just starting also I want to spider rig and longline. I work at Bass Pro and they had some rods on clearence so I bought 4 12' light Crappie Maxx and 2 14' mh Crappie Maxx. So did I get to light and to heavy or can I work with what I bought.
astro92 u have thejob i want to u guys get discounts on what u buy?
Yep....I used 10's and 12's for awhile but really like the 14's I have now. Its hard to beat 14 ft. B'nM Capps and Coleman trolling rods for spider rigging
I have spent most my life fishing........the rest I wasted.

is there a learning curve 12' vs 14' ? It seems everone start out shorter than 14' and moved up to them I've never spider rigged before so I have alot to learn. Just trying to buy what I need with out wanting to up grade next year. 8 rods and reels are not a cheep if you buy the stuff that will last.
I've used 12, 14 and 16 foot rods and went back to the 12' rods for my all around rods for spider rigging, pulling and pushing.
Though I use 2 14 footers,beleive I like all twelves better.
