Default Spring and summer time jigheads

I am wondering how heavy should i go on the jigheads when fishing for spring and summer time crappie?

Actually, my first question should be are Roadrunner jigheads and knock-offs worth the investment?

I have 1/8 and 1/16 oz unpainted jigheads. I want to get some painted jigheads, but i am split between going all out and adding flash to it, or just the standard painted jigheads.

I use unpainted jig heads most of the time. If you want to experiment with colors get a few jars of powder paint and try it. Easy to do & not that expensive.

I am sure there are times when bigger jigs get bit better. But for me I usually fish smaller jig sizes like 1/32 and 1/64 and even 1/80. I would rather weigh my line to get down. I fell the jigs has better movement the smaller they get. I don't fish minnows which might make me recondsider.

1/16,1/8,1/4 are my year round sizes.I like the road runner heads don't use the all the time but I do use them. White and pink are the two colors oh jig heads I use the most and I use white 90% of the time

I use 1/16 and 1/8 oz. jig heads, but with a 3/8 oz. weight 18" ahead of the jig for trolling off the stern. I run four poles, each with one jig. I've got some RoadRunner-style jig heads and use them often...although I can't say they outperform a regular jig head. IMHO 95% of the result is just getting the bait right in front of the crappie's face.

In other words, if I'm marking most fish at 7 feet and have all my jigs at that depth, if a fish is going to bite he's going to bite the jig closest to him. He's not going to swim 3 feet away from a jig just because the other one looks better.

I use 1/16th jigheads, both painted and unpainted. I'll add splitshot to get 'em deeper in the summer and winter months which works well for me. I will change out to 1/32nds when the fish go real shallow during the spawn so I can troll 'em in 2'-3' of water. I also use light wire hooks during the spring to avoid loosing so many jigs.

On the painted heads I prefer chartruese, hot pink, and bright orange.

I love a 1/16oz road runner head for casting to spawning fish with a hot grub attached.

For single pole verticle fishing I use 1/16oz as deep as 25ft. Once I start fishing deeper than that I go to 1/8oz and 1/4oz on windy days when fishing deep. Hard to beat a 1/16oz as an all around size for me.

I use unpainted heads all the time. Since I verticle jig most of the time , all I use are 1/8 with larger plastic tubes. Even in shallow water, I feel staying in contact with heavier jigs is easier. I know when I bump cover or a fish hits because of direct contact. If I need to fish extremely deep in winter (over 20') , I use a pair of jigs.
