thats what i do also. Of course if its an extra nice fish or your tournament fishing escort him to the livewell, saw a guy in a tournament once skip a 2lber off the back deck:bash
I have had both. 1 boat with the front livewell only was used for bait, but it was too deep and hard to get minners out of. I currently have a 2005 PT 185 with only a rear livewell and I like it better. I am going to build a 8" deep bait tank to go in the area in front of the console that can also be used as a step up to the casting deck.
I just had an idea for those of you who have a front well that you use for bait. A trip to the sheet metal shop could have an insert made of perforated aluminum that would not interfere with the lid, and cut down on the minnows track space. The recirculation of the well would keep their water fresh, and the lift out feature would make it simpler at the end of the day. Food for thought.
I don't need a partner who can't catch fish to ride in back. My wife decided she wanted to "drive" the boat when the trolling motor was in the water. Well, I wasn't too keen on that idea 'cause I didn't think it would work out too well..especially in the trees. But I finally gave in and showed her how and it was the best thing I could of done. She found out she likes doing it and she's pretty good at it too! So now most of the time I just sit in back and fish and after a while say "Honey..lets fish over there". So I'm the guy in back who takes her fish off and puts them in the livewell. I can say from experience that being the designated fish puter awayer ain't all that bad when you're being chauffeured around like a king!
My livewell is in the middle of my boat right in front of the console.....sometimes I wish I had two livewells though.
