I've not used that particular model, but I have used the Smartcast portable unit. It's pretty basic, but it works.

Yep, I had one of those. It worked alright, took some guess work out of the mix. It was given to me, so I bought a new transducer. When the transducer went dead, which I didn't think was anywhere close to 500hrs, I also gave it away. It did put some extra fish in the pan.

I have one - a little different model, but they are all the same transducer. If you get it, put a little sealant around the seam on the transducer. my first one leaked a little water in and it died early. the transducer isn't made to be serviceable, so when the battery dies you have to replace the transducer. It will last if you seal it.

Greg posted an interesting point a while back....

It seems the xducer is "water activated".....

He suggested to store the xducer in a "dry" place...not in a damp tackle box...

There is two little probes--look like bout 22 gauge wire that stick out even with the plastic shell, they are about 1/2 or 1"apart, when transducer is put in water or on wet rag the water makes contact between probes and turns ducer on, when storing my unit I always would put a piece of plastic electrical tape on one of the probes to seal it off. I had 2 ducers one labeled "A" other "B" you could throw both out on water & switch between the 2. Very basic but it worked fine, worked great on Quarry;s and ponds when shore fishing. Showeddepth, structure(basic block style) and had fish symbols that were sometimes fish, sticks, turtles. Well worth the money for shore fishing.
