It must have been my line.....or me not spitting on it.....It was a brand new roll, but I have been using the same kind and test so it must just be that roll. I have never had a problem with the knot before now. thanks to all!!

Oh, you spit on the line.....thought you just spit for good luck and if the knot is in the way, oh well, it gets washed off anyhow! :D .

All my lures get tied the same way, for freshwater anyway. My knots do knot (sorry) come loose. Try this.

Pass line [call it A] through eye, and returns [tag line is now called B]. Send line [now on return is called C] back to eye forming a loop, but do not go through the eye. Hold lines A and B together and wrap line C around them six times, spit for good luck and pull knot together. Will not come apart.

    Default Uni-knot

I too had this same problem when switching to smaller line. I found that the smaller line bent easier than the bigger line and therefore had a tendency to slip out of the knot. I started using a uni-knot and have never had any more problems. This knot works on every line type and size. I have used a polomar knot with sucess with larger lures or hook eyes but the smaller fly eyes does not have enough room to pass the line through the hook twice. I can even tie this uni-knot with cold stiff hands and after I get the line through the eye, then I dont even have to look at it again to finish tying it. I hope this helps.

You are describing the clinch not you said that you ran the tag end through the eye and twisted it around main line and back through eye in line, after that run it back between the tag end and raps and pull tight you were leaving out one step.

I use the Palomar and Uni knots for everything. With these 2 knots you can tie anything you need on mono and braid. Also both have a very good strength retention.

The only time I know the Uni is better than the Palomar is when using heave mono, I use 100# mono on my trot line drops and the line is just too big for the Palomar.

I did the same thing that Slabbandit has described for years. I could tie the cinch knot and the improved cinch knot in my sleep with my eye's closed.

In 2002 I ran into the two time winner of the Crappie USA Patoka Lake Spring Tournaments and he showed me the Palomar Knot that he used with 6lb test line. I figured he was pretty good fisherman and learned to time his knot. It's a stronger knot that the Cinch knot and possible a little stronger than the improved cinch knot. It's harder to tie and I still have to keep my eyes open to tie it. :p

I always go one step further on the clinch knot and pass the tag end back thru the big loop created when the end is passed thru the first loop by the eye. I believe that this is called the "Improved Clinch Knot".

Since my eyes aren't what they used to be I have gone to the "Palomar Knot". It is made by simply having your line passed thru the eye of the jig doubled, tie an overhand knot and pass the loop back over the jig and pull tight. Retains over 90% of line strength.

LOL I can relate to trying to tie the palomar knot at night. I have to take my bifocal off so that I can see the fishing line at night even with a coleman lantern burning and hanging in my on the lantern holder on my boat.

I got me one of them Diodie lights that has a strap that fits on your hat and around the head. I may use it when night fishing to see better. It's a lot brighter than my mini mag flashlight.

I replaced the single light bulf of my small 2 AA battey mini mag lights with the new three diode lights. They seem to have a brighter light than the original small light bulb. I was using the 2 Cell AA Krypton light bulbs but these new lights are a different color temperature. They seem to have more white light and not so yellow in color. I think they burn brigher and just make the light seem a better quality.

Question: Have ya ever thrown the pole - all in one casting motion into
the water. As in, looking left, looking right, and then picking up another pole,
and acting like everything is normal, and nothing happened.

If you have raise your hand; no one is looking ...

No boxing Ref Rick i've never done that but, i have gone to cast a rapala from the bank and checked to make sure that i was clear off any trees or branches.Unfortunately i didn't look overhead and upon casting the rapala it hooked a branch over my head and snapped my rod in half. The loud crack of the pole breaking drew the attention of about 6 people fishing in the area, all of who looked at me like, what a dufus.I quietly picked up the pieces and tackle box and left without looking to see if anybody was looking at me.

I run the line through the eye and then take the main line and the tag line and put together and make a loop of the tag line and then make about 6wraps down the main line and tag line and then run it back through the loop at the top and then tigthen it down to the eye and snip off the end.I had a fisherman teach me this knot he said i would appreciate it when i got older and couldnt see real well, he wasnt lying.anybody know what this knot is called.
